A small collection of papers of the Varnum family of Dracut and Haverhill, Mass., containing primarily correspondence between Joseph B. Varnum, U.S. Senator from Mass., and his sons John and James M., James's wife Mary, and Benjamin Varnum. The letters primarily concern family relations, estates, and deaths, although there is an occasional mention of national events.

Joseph Bradley Varnum (January 29, 1750/1751 – September 21, 1821) was a U.S. politician of the Democratic-Republican Party from Massachusetts. He served as a U.S. Representative and United States Senator, and held leadership positions in both bodies.
